There is something for everyone on your list this year, from the foodie to the techie to the fashionista. Having a hard time coming up with the perfect gift? This is the definitive list for the person that has it all. We hope you and your special someone will enjoy our picks.
Is this 2017’s Hamilton? Only time can tell, but this new musical has Tony written all over it. Be prepared to laugh and cry and be deeply moved. As the Times review puts it, this musical is for “everyone with a beating heart.” Ben Platt, of Pitch Perfect fame, gives an impressive and charming performance that will certainly win him accolades and awards. So be sure to snatch up your ticket before this show sells out for the year!
This hair dryer is a technological marvel. It defies my understanding of the laws of physics that this design could even produce airflow. What makes this product great, beyond the futuristic design, is the temperature control. This feature prevents the dryer from exceeding a temperature that could damage your hair. For that reason, it is an essential tool in your grooming arsenal.
Milk Bar is the most creative and delicious bakery in the city. They are known for such innovative crowd-pleasers as Cereal Milk Ice Cream, Birthday Cake Truffles, and Crack Pie. Now you can bring some of their culinary whimsy into your own kitchen with a private Milk Bar cooking class. If you do not live in the New York area, you can also bring Milk Bar home with one of their baking kits from Target.
Known for their iconic sneakers, Common Projects now gives its take on chelsea boots. These are both comfortable and stylish. We love the clean minimalist profiles on these beauties. This is a great closet staple that will get heavy rotation fall through spring.
5. Tom Ford Candle
Tom Ford makes some of my favorite men’s fragrances, which are now available in the form of these stylish candles. The masculine design will add a touch of sophistication to any guy’s abode. Their Oud scent is my favorite. It is rich and sophisticated, with dark smoky tones and sweet cedar notes.
The Slim d’Hermès watch is truly a thing of beauty. Its sleek profile is so understated and well-designed, it bears constant admiration on the wrist. The font of the digits was specially designed for the watch, with a meticulous attention to detail (see if you can spot the notch taken out of each number). We are particularly smitten with this watch in the unique navy blue and slate gray colors.
Herbivore is a relative newcomer to the grooming world and we are already digging their products. Their mantra is pure organic ingredients without any fillers. We love this mask, which uses AHAs and BHAs to gently resurface the skin. The beautiful packaging doesn’t hurt either!
Orlebar Brown collaborated with New York-based illustrator Richard Haines on this stunning capsule collection. We love the beautiful playful design. It is basically like wearing a work of art on your shorts!
Are you looking for a unique personalized gift this holiday season? Why not bring the online world into the real world with this out of the box gift idea? Your friends will love seeing their Instagram highlights come to life in a beautiful coffee table book. I gave one to a friend this year, and I could see that he was so moved by seeing his photos presented in such a way. The emotional impact makes this a very worthwhile gift idea.
We love the unusual details that make this wallet special. The Taiga leather has a rich texture and the ocean blue color is subtle and unexpected. The slim profile makes this a very elegant wallet.
If clothes make the man, then this tie will take your man to the next level. The color is so sophisticated, you can wear it with any look this winter and instantly up your chic factor. The texture of this tie is so rich that it almost begs to be touched. Put those two factors together and this is the one tie to get for the man on your shopping list.
This is my number one indulgence in New York right now. If your special someone enjoys cookie dough ice cream or any thing cookie dough related, then this gift is for them. The range of flavors is so creative and delicious (Heavenly and Trail Mix are personal favorites). Just to be clear, I could devour a whole carton of this stuff in one sitting. It’s my undoing. DŌ offers nation-wide delivery, making this a great holiday treat!
I’m a big fan of backpacks for the city and for travel. But you don’t want to look like you just got out of fourth period English class. Herschel makes a grown-up backpack out of a sophisticated sporty knit fabric. This one fits the bill with its great ratio of high design, quality, and value.
14. Remembering Prince, David Bowie, and Leonard Cohen
2016 saw a disappointingly high number of our favorite artists pass, including the legends Prince, David Bowie, and Leonard Cohen. Surprise a fan and celebrate their memory by gifting a related work. Here’s an example of a beautiful coffee table book we found on David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust years: The Rise of David Bowie, 1972-1973.
Remember when we were kids and we used to make model airplanes? Well here is the grown-up version of that! For the guy that enjoys a good DIY project, this kit will give him the satisfaction of creating his own homemade gin. It will definitely be a conversation starter at your next cocktail party when the guests find out that they are drinking your signature brew!
Visiting new places is amazing, but getting there? Not so much. Raden’s luggage takes some of the frustration out of the process so you can sit back and enjoy the journey. This luggage comes jam-packed with high tech features to make your travels easier. It comes with a built-in device charger, a scale to weigh your luggage, and a locating feature in case you loose track of your luggage, among many other features. This is the luggage of the future, and should be top of anyone’s wish list this season.
One of our favorite Instagram accounts goes old school by producing a real live book. Benjamin Grant runs the popular drone photography Instagram account @dailyoverview. If you don’t follow him already, you should for his amazing aerial views of world landmarks. This book packages up the best of his photography in one handsome volume that puts an awesome spin on your usual coffee table book.
AVF makes a line of chic accessories for the modern home. Her candy bowls come in a range of colors that will fit any decor (we like the root beer color featured here). This bowl will add touch of downtown sophistication to a coffee or entry table.
A perfect combo of two products in one — a mouse and a pomade — this is an easy way to step up your hair game without adding another step. We love everything from this new hair stylist-directed brand, from the fun product names to the cool packaging. Each product’s label features a different photo taken by the team on their iPhones. Very cool!
20. 2016’s Best New Cookbooks
Two of our favorite domestic divas have new cookbooks out this holiday season. Both are highly recommended, so we leave it up to you to decide which one(s) to get. Ina Garten’s new cookbook, Cooking for Jeffrey, accompanies her new Food Network show of the same name, of which we are huge fans. Martha Stewart’s Vegetables is a visually stunning cookbook filled with healthy and delicious ideas for eating your veggies.
