Instagram is great for a lot of things. But one thing in particular is that it’s how I found Mr. Turner, one of Australia’s top menswear bloggers. We connected through the app a while back, and finally got to meet up when I was in Australia.
Jordan, aka Mr. Turner, has a great feed (and can arrange a mean flat lay). He really captures that laidback Aussie style. He also has a thing for doughnut photos, which I don’t mind! He is definitely one to follow: www.instagram.com/mrturner.
We sat down for dinner a few weeks ago at The Winery, a chic restaurant in the posh Surry Hills neighborhood of Sydney. It was a warm evening, perfect for dining alfresco. The Winery has a great outdoor space, strung with twinkling lights. For a second I had to pinch myself and ask if I was in Napa. But that’s the Sydney vibe, outdoorsy and laidback.
Jordan was wearing a neutral look with a Jac+Jack linen-colored bomber jacket and oatmeal tee, perfect for a spring evening at a cool Sydney hotspot. He was much taller than I was expecting in real life! It figures that he is a swimmer, “Growing up, I would go to the Bondi Icebergs Club for swim practice.” Jordan is a real Bondi Beach native, and it shows in his casual cool style.
Jordan gave me some great Sydney travel tips, and an Aussie slang lesson to boot (he’s a real fair dinkum kind of guy!). The best part was his list of Sydney menswear shops. The next day I decided to check a few of these places out and they were all great.
This is an Australian brand with an easy sensibility. I checked out their Paddington store on Oxford Street and it was beautiful. That wall of color-sorted neutrals is heaven!
This boutique is a bit of a hidden treasure, tucked away on the second floor of a nondescript building in Surry Hills. But it is worth the hunt. They have a well-curated collection of clothing and accessories.
This is a menswear boutique with a great selection. They have international brands as well as Australian brands like Vanishing Elephant. I picked up an olive bomber jacket for my Sydney photoshoot here.
Thanks, Jordan, for all of your great Sydney travel tips! Special thanks to Trish Nichol Agency and The Winery for making the dinner possible!
