On my recent trip to London, I was very fortunate to work with Mr. Porter on a quintessentially British photoshoot. I am an avid Mr. Porter fan, both the shop and the magazine. They do an excellent job of curating amazing pieces. It makes my life easier knowing that everything on their site has been given the Mr. Porter stamp of approval, and I know their standards are quite high!
For this shoot, I am wearing the Boglioli K-jacket Slim-fit Checked Alpaca-blend Blazer. It caught eye in a recent Mr. Porter article on wearing check and tartan patterns. This jacket is really a thing of beauty! I love it for several reasons.
First, it breams with gentlemanly sophistication, like something James Bond might wear while reading in his wood-paneled study. Second, while the overall effect is neutral, upon closer inspection, there are multiple bands of interesting color: burgundy, light blue, camel, black, and gray. This makes it really easy to tie in to one of the colors in your outfit. Finally, it is shockingly lightweight for a jacket with such great structure. You’ll barely feel like you are wearing a blazer at all.
For a statement piece like this, it is best to keep the underpinnings very basic. I went with a black turtleneck, to complete that sophisticated British look, and gray wool pants. A good collection of basic pieces is the underpinning of any wardrobe. If you have good basics, you can spice them up with a superb statement piece like this and create a whole new look.
A big thank you to the wonderful team at Mr. Porter for making this photoshoot possible!
